Day 1: the steep incline after the Forks campground is very challenging but once that's done you'll be rewarded with beautiful views in the meadows on the plateau. The last 5 km to the campsite were a struggle. Once I decided to take my boots off I had no trouble crossing the river at the bottom of the valley. At the junction of Three Isle Creek and the Upper Kananaskis River is the “Forks” Campground where our journey takes us north along the river for a time, before the ascent onto the avalanche slopes beneath Mount Putnik. The approach to campground wasn’t too bad. Just finished this great hike counter clockwise. An option to consider is to stay at Beatty Lake campground to shorten the day giving more time to enjoy the lake and Three Isle the following day. Stay together, make noise and if one is seen, veer through the bush to keep clear and avoid any unpleasantness. 5 to Three Isle and 3 back to the parking lot. The path is strewn with rocks as you follow the old fire road before heading deep into the forest once well past the lake. We stayed at the Turbine Canyon campground which was very windy throughout the night. Completed this hike solo in a day, started at 1:15AM waited for sunrise to descend down the scree slope at the south Kananaskis pass talked with BC forestry folks and few other groups on way back. Stay on Kananaskis Lakes Road until it ends at the Upper Lake Parking lot. It is very easy to find and stay on the trail the entire way. If you go counterclockwise, camp at Beatty Lake (only 4 sites) as it's at the top of the slope and you'll have more time to rest your weary legs after a tough battle. Day 2 departing Turbine Canyon to Three Isle Lake was strenuous on the climbs and scree slope in the hot weather. Option 2 is to largely retrace your steps from yesterday to Forks Campground and then go west to Three Isle Lake. Also a great place to enjoy your lunch on the way out! Overall a great hike!!! The views at the "meadow break" were incredible. The weather was fantastic and had the makings for a very hot day. There is still a lot of snow getting up to Turbine Canyon. Beyond Forks Campground, at first the Three Isle Lake trail continued to be nearly level. No snow or other tricky conditions. Although you can hike there and back in one very long day, it is far better to backpack in to the campground for a long weekend and spend time looking around some fantastic high country. It isn't too far (under 7 km) or too steep and it puts you in easy range of Three Isle Lake and the South Kananaskis Pass. Completed September 3rd I would recommend this trail to everyone the views you get at both continental devides is spectacular, if doing I would suggest going clockwise as when you go past Beaty lake you follow a creek bed down and the scree slope trail is easy to navigate clockwise it’s easy to loose the trail and makes for more difficulty. I decided to walk the long way around Upper Kananaskis Lake. We followed that trail into the campsite and it seemed to work out. On AllTrails, it said to walk up the creek and around which I'm sure would have worked as well because we saw that on the map at Beatty campground. First night we slept at Turbine Canyon Two river crossings between Beatty and Turbine - water was low enough that the logs were easy to cross. Then you're in for an incredible downhill over scree and some overgrowth before bottoming out in the valley. We did this in 3 days, 2 nights at the end of July. Overall, a fabulous route and a much clearer trail than before. As others have said, the BC side is more overgrown than AB, but someone has recently went trough and cut back all of the bushes.
